Sun shines on Millicent 50th event
8 July 2010
Despite worrying for over a week about whether it would be raining and overcast on the day, the heavens smiled on Kimberly-Clark Australia’s Millicent Mill 50 year celebrations. The day was one of bright sunshine and blue skies, which is unusual this time of the year in south-east South Australia!
The marquee was up, the media were there, the guests seated and the stage set for the formal ceremony in front of a crowd of more than 300 people.
Formal proceedings included speeches by Scott Whicker Mill Manager, Minister for Trade and Industry Tom Koutsantonis [Related Links], the local Mayor Mark Braes, General Manager Family Care, Milo Foster [Related Links] , and to conclude Managing Director, Mark Wynne.
Mark Wynne spoke about the many changes that have occurred in the past 50 years and stressed the need for government to provide consistent policy in areas like carbon tax and import duties to give companies like Kimberly-Clark the confidence to make long term investment decisions which ensure a sustainable business. To mark the celebration Mark Wynne also released “The Forest, The Lake and The Mill”, a commemorative book on the history of the past 50 years.
At the completion of the ceremony Mayor Mark Braes and Mark Wynne unveiled an official plaque and everyone enjoyed morning tea and a chat about the past 50 years or the next 50.
Overall the day was a great success allowing many people the chance to understand where we have come from and where we are going. It also provided an opportunity to reinforce with government the real issues our industry and our businesses face today.
While the Mill is 50 years old our people are professional, dedicated and aiming to be still going strong for another 50 years.
