Kleenex® Tissues – Sneezesafe this winter

5 May 2010

Winter is fast approaching and with an incredible nine in ten (91 per cent) pre-school and primary school children wiping their nose on their clothes and hands rather than tissues, the Sneezesafe campaign teaches an important message to kids.

Catch it, Bin It, Kill it

The key message for the Sneezesafe’s program is a simple 1-2-3 technique for children to use to help control the spread of germs and practice proper tissue use:

  1. – Catch It – Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
  2. – Bin It – Throw the tissue away afterwards
  3. – Kill It – Wash your hands

This simple and memorable procedure complements the Commonwealth Government’s advice to control the spread of viruses like flu, H1N1 and the common cold, and can help decrease absenteeism by children (and subsequently parents), especially over the winter months.

The Sneezesafe program has been adapted by Australian Teachers for Australian school children, complementing relevant state curriculum.

The program includes lesson plans, entertaining and fun Internet-based games, stories and teaching materials such as certificates, posters and stickers to assist the teacher in delivering the program. Teachers that register for the program will receive free samples of Kleenex®Tissues for use in the classroom and Kleenex® Tissues Pocket Packs for all participating students to carry with them so they can Sneezesafe wherever they are.
