Walking the Talk: 2008 Sustainability Report out now
17 April 2009
Everyday around the world 1.3 billion people in 150 countries rely on Kimberly-Clark products to care for themselves and those around them. Our business reaches beyond our mills and offices and into the environment and our community.
With that reach comes great responsibility – to act with care and integrity, to think about the long-term impact on the consumers of our products, our end users, our community, our environment, and our people.
Our sustainability report details our priorities, reports on our progress and shares our plans on our ongoing commitment to being a socially responsible corporate citizen.
2008 achievements
In 2008 despite the challenging economic times, we have achieved a number of important goals that we set for ourselves including:
- Looking out for the safety of our people
-
- We decreased the number of lost time injuries by an impressive 50% and the number of reportable injuries by 29.6%.
- We were recognised as an Employer of Choice for Women.
- Caring for our community
-
- Employees volunteered a total of 889 volunteering hours.
- We made a total community investment of over $988,000 in time, cash and product.
- We tripled the amount of money we raised for our partner, Children’s Medical Research Institute through our Jeans for Genes day activities.
- Sustaining our environment
-
- 87% of the fibre used in KCA mills was sourced from certified forest areas.
- We reduced our water usage.
- 97% of waste was diverted from landfill.
- Communicating with our consumers
-
- We continued to be rated “excellent” or “very good” by more than 95% of our consumers who sought assistance from our Customer Advisory Service and ensured more than 90% of issues were resolved.
As a company we are committed to building a sustainable future – it’s inherent in our values. Which is why the report is called Walking the Talk. We hope you find it informative.
