Kimberly-Clark’s HAI WATCHDOG* Online Community & Awards Program Launches at APSIC.

24 November 2011

Make A Pledge Make A Difference Are you an HAI WATCHDOG*?
On a mission to protect their patients from healthcare-associated infections, an HAI WATCHDOG* can share information, challenges and best practices with colleagues around the world on the new HAI WATCHDOG* Community forum.

Our resident HAI WATCHDOG* was on the case at the recent Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC) Conference held 8-11th November 2011 in Melbourne handing out postcards and promoting the new HAI WATCHDOG* program.

APSIC was a highly successful event with Kimberly-Clark’s Professional division promoting their excellent Hand Hygiene campaign results. They received 519 pledges from hospital staff across 15 hospitals resulting in a $5,000 donation to UNICEF Australia’s Water and Sanitation Fund.

HAI WatchDog Delegates were also given the opportunity to view Professional’s innovative Hand Hygiene Audit iPad App that’s soon to be released into hospitals. This will make compulsory hand hygiene audits much easier for hospitals and was well received at the conference. The tool is designed to increase real time data and allow infection prevention nurses to respond to teams that require further assistance to improve hand hygiene compliance. It is also designed to increase productivity cutting down on the many hours spent collecting hand hygiene data via the current paper based system.

If you would like further information on this iPad App, please contact Anesh Naidoo at: Anesh.naidoo@kcc.com.

Thank you to the 140 delegates who attended our Clinical Breakfast Session at APSIC, presented by Hailey Samuels (a registered nurse in Critical Care for the last 22 years) on preventing blood stream infections from the use of intravenous lines. If you missed the session and would like a copy of Hailey’s presentation, please contact Donna Empson at donna.empson@kcc.com.

HAI WATCHDOG* Online Community

A new social media site for K-C Health Care, this online forum allows healthcare professionals to share best practices, challenges and HAI initiatives and enter the HAI WATCHDOG* Awards. The idea is to create a place where healthcare professionals can learn from colleagues around the world about best practices in HAI prevention.

HAI WATCHDOG* Awards

Open for submissions until August 2012, this program will provide educational grants and community recognition to hospitals that have implemented successful HAI prevention initiatives in Australia and New Zealand. An independent panel of experts will vote on the winners and healthcare professionals will vote online for the Clinicians Choice awards.

We would like to thank APSIC and AICA for putting on such a wonderful event that could be enjoyed by not only Australia and New Zealand Health Care professionals, but those throughout Asia Pacific.
