ACORN/Kimberly-Clark Perioperative Scholarship 2007
You or another member of your perioperative team could be awarded $5,000 to submit a Research Paper investigating “Protection and Safety of Staff & Patients in the Perioperative Environment”.
The Kimberly-Clark Perioperative Scholarship has been developed in conjunction with the Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN).
One of ACORN’s aims is to contribute to the highest standard of patient care and professional competency in perioperative environments.
In keeping with these aims, Perioperative team members are invited to submit a Research Paper investigating “Protection and Safety of Staff and Patients in the Perioperative Environment”. The completed paper must be of publishable standard, no longer than 2,500 words. ACORN will provide supervision for candidates.
What can you win?
Kimberly-Clark will allocate the Scholarship in 2 instalments of $2,500 each. The first instalment will be provided within 30 days of the announcement of the Scholarship winner and upon receipt of all necessary approvals. The second instalment will be paid on receipt of the completed and accepted Research Paper.
The Scholarship winner will present their research paper at the National ACORN Meeting, and/or State Meetings.
The research paper will also be published in the Australian ACORN Journal.
Who is able to apply?
All nurses who are full members of ACORN Association and are employed in the Perioperative environment as scrub staff, clinical educators or infection control managers.
Members of ACORN employed by another health care, device, or pharmaceutical company are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
What will you submit?
- A detailed Research Proposal identifying key milestones and resources
- Certified copies of relevant professional certificates and memberships
- References from 2 independent sources.
How will it be assessed?
Research must focus on investigating the protection and safety of both staff and patients in the Perioperative setting.

Applicants for the scholarship should first provide a short outline of their research to ACORN.
