Kimberly-Clark Health Care takes Education Foundation to the Territory
21-22 February 2011

This year’s K-C Education Foundation program was launched over two days last week with Clinical Breakfast Sessions in Darwin and Alice Springs. Following feedback from last year’s program, the Education Foundation team found that regional hospitals across Australia and New Zealand very rarely get the opportunity to participate in education events.
The team saw the 2011 program as an opportunity to expand the Education Foundation to these locations in order to meet the needs of healthcare workers across the wider Australia and New Zealand region.
The sessions in Darwin and Alice Springs proved to be a great success with 45 attendees, including a group of seven healthcare workers from Katherine Hospital (six from Theatre and one from Central Sterilisation departments) that travelled 634 km (round trip) to attend the session at Royal Darwin Hospital.
As continuous education is essential to ensure that healthcare workers remain at the forefront of infection prevention practices and techniques some very important topics were covered in the sessions. These included ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Surgery?’, ‘An Insight into Aseptic Technique’ and ‘Coming Clean: An Essential for Reusable Medical Devices’.
Feedback from attendees was that they enjoyed the discussions and learning from other hospital staff, and that they were looking forward to future lectures.
