Water, air, noise, & chemicals
Managing waste water
All water waste from our pulp and paper mills is treated before it leaves the site. This process involves a series of large treatment ponds with vigorous forced aeration.
The treated waste water from the mills meets stringent overseas and Australian standards. It is analysed daily to confirm compliance and is periodically tested at external laboratories which confirm the water is non-toxic to aquatic fauna (fish and small animals they feed on).
Responsible waste water treatment is part of Kimberly-Clark’s worldwide environmental commitment.
Protecting our water
Kimberly-Clark Australia is careful to prevent spills and rubbish leaving any of our production sites via stormwater drains. Drains leaving our sites have signs to remind employees and visitors that rubbish on the road and in gutters can wash off site into local waterways. We encourage employees to ensure gutters, roads and paved areas are kept clean.
Protecting our air
Kimberly-Clark Australia has a policy that everyone should report unusual dust, smoke or gas emissions to management.
The reason for this vigilance is clear: early detection leads to quick action to ensure a safe working environment on site and avoid any impact off site.
Noise awareness
Kimberly-Clark Australia minimises noise at the design stage of its mills, so noise is not a major factor. Kimberly-Clark Australia employees, however, are aware they need to observe the law and be considerate of neighbours when arriving or leaving our premises by keeping noise levels down, especially at night.
When operating equipment, proper noise restriction features are mandatory and required procedures strictly adhered to.
Safety with chemicals
Kimberly-Clark Australia arranges regular employee training and has close supervision to ensure that chemicals required in manufacturing are used strictly as directed.
Safety is Kimberly-Clark’s number one priority.
