Sources of fibres by region and forest certification
Kimberly-Clark Australia accounts for every load of wood and fibre used at its pulping and tissue making operations.
Plantation pine thinnings are supplied to Kimberly-Clark’s Tantanoola woodyard by Forestry South Australia. Kimberly-Clark Australia purchases different fibres from North and South American suppliers.
We know the percentage certification of each load by chain of custody certification. This says how much comes from forest operations certified to sustainable forest management standards.
We then calculate the average percentage of fibre we have used every quarter. The graph shows the results for 1st quarter 2008 with 87% from certified forest areas. Kimberly-Clark Australia is working with its suppliers to achieve 100% certified wood and fibre supplies.
Wood from all sources is certified, under chain of custody, as legally harvested and not from controversial sources. The small proportion of wood without forest management certification generally comes from small and private forests whose owners lack the resources to pay the additional costs for independent and professional auditing and certification.
