Caring for our environment
At Kimberly-Clark Australia we take environmental sustainability very seriously. We work actively across all aspects of our business to make sure our products are environmentally responsible.
See the latest on our environmental performance in our 2010 Sustainability Report, Walking the Talk [PDF, 31 pages, 15.0 MB].
What is KCA doing to protect the environment?
Our Environmental Management System (EMS) and policies are based on the international ISO 14000 standards for environmental management. In fact, we were one of the first Australian companies to ever have an environmental policy and EMS.
Our sound environmental management is shown in the way we:
- have three mills certified to ISO 14001:2004 by independent and accredited auditors
-
achieved international PEFC certification for our wood and fibre sources
- international PEFC certification policy
-
achieved international FSC certification for a range of our products
- international FSC certification policy
- Kimberly-Clark Australia’s Chain of Custody policy
- trailblazed innovative oxygen-based bleaching methods in Australia
- get 30% of our energy from wood residues, which are greenhouse neutral
- became foundation supporters of Commonwealth Government environmental initiatives, the Greenhouse Challenge and the National Packaging Covenant
- installed a $3.4 million nappy reclaim unit to recycle manufacturing waste
- promote stringent segregation of wastes in production to ensure a high level of internal recycling (both paper and plastic wastes)
- promote a strong environmental ethic as part of our culture throughout the company.
- Continue to look at ways to make our packaging more sustainable as detailed in our Australian Packaging Covenant 5 year Plan and National Packaging Covenant II 2010 Report.
